Jason Cooper - FAS Head Coach and Firbank Grammar Director of Swimming

Silver Licenced Coach

Position: Director of Swimming/Head Coach.
Jason oversees the school swimming, Learn to Swim and Aquastars programs at Firbank.

Qualifications: Silver License Coach

Coaching Experience:  Over 30 years coaching experience including Learn to Swim, Masters and Tri Athletes,
School Programs, National Age and Open swimmers, State team coach, National event camp coach,
Coaching course presenter.
Former Elite Swimmer:
Australian Open Swim Team member #372: 1989 Pan Pacific Games (Tokyo) 2 bronze medals and multiple finalist. 1990 Commonwealth Games (Auckland) Gold and Bronze Medalist.
1991 World Championships (Perth) Finalist.

Other Australian Teams: 1989 World Cup Tour (Europe) Multiple Finalist. 1991 Olympic familiarisation tour (Barcelona). 1992 Canada Cup (Canada) Gold and Silver Medalist

World Best time in 1991 in the Men’s 50m Butterfly.

Australian record holder Men’s Open 50m Butterfly (1990-1997), Age 100m Butterfly record (1990 – 1996)
Awarded Australian Sports Medal in 2001 for outstanding contribution to sport

Other Swimming and Sporting Trivia:
Still (as of 2020) holds the 10year old boys QLD primary schools 50m F/S record set in 1982.
Has won QLD state championships in every stroke and distance from 50m – 400m.
Has held state or national records in all 4 strokes and the Individual Medley.
In his younger years participated in: Basketball, Netball, Waterpolo, Hockey, Rugby League, AFL, Athletics, Cross Country and Volleyball with varying ranges of skill levels……

Family and Interests:
Jason is married with 3 children, a dog, 2 cockatiels and 4 love birds. His children are/have attended Sandringham House, Firbank Senior School and BGS. His eldest daughter will complete year 12 at Firbank Senior School in 2020.
Jason enjoys fishing, gardening, trying to train his dog and coffee.

Julie Jansz - Senior Coach

Swimming History:

Was taught to swim by a Priest when living in Lakes Entrance in a motel pool in 1974 with all 8 of my class mates! (Very grateful.) Swam for Lilydale Swimming Club in the 70’s.

 

Swimming Coaching Experience:

Started out in 2001 in the Aquatics industry as a LTS Teacher and Coach.

 Highlights include assistant coach to Olympic & Comm Games Swimmers, Medalists at National Age and State Level, teaching a Politician & Great Grandmother to swim as well and many pre-schoolers & children.

 

Other Coaching Experience:

Assisting Volleyball & Womens Cricket.

Conducting Dryland Training sessions for varying levels of fitness and for family and friends.

 

Sporting Achievements:

As a kid played, Softball, Netball, Volleyball, Athletics, Swimming, & Cricket.

Represented Under 17 State School team for Volleyball. 1981

Played Cricket for Victorian 1989

Represented Australia in the International Dragon Boat festival in Beijing 1992

Participated in various Open Water Swims.

Dabbled in Tri-athlons since 2006

 

Family & Interests:

Married with 2 children. Enjoys keeping fit, cycling highlights include cycling Arthurs Seat 4 times in a row.

Loves camping, fishing, in particular spear fishing, body boarding or body surfing, anything to do with water.

 Will give anything a go at least once.

Nick Findeisen - State Squad Coach

Bronze Licenced Coach - with SWD Extension 

 

Nick has more than 10 years of coaching experience from Learn-to-Swim to State Qualifying Swimmers. 

He is a Primary and Secondary School Coach with success across all levels including School State Champions and numerous medal winners.

Nick is an accomplished swimmer and currently swims with the FAS National Squad.  He is a multiple Open National Finalist and Semi-Finalist; has qualified at an Open National level across all strokes and distances from 50m to 1500m.  He is a 3x Victorian State Champion, multiple State Silver and Bronze Medalist in all strokes and distances.  Nick has also competed in a number of other sports including: Tennis, Cricket, Hockey, Athletics, Waterpolo, Aussie Rules, and Golf.

Nick and his 3 siblings have all swam (or are still swimming) with FAS.  All 4 Findeisens have received 10 year service awards and are current (or former) FAS record holders.  He enjoys watching, reading, and playing sports of all sorts and is not scared to admit that he is a Demons Supporter!
